Genesis 28:14-15
"Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring. I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you."
Who is the Lord talking to in this passage? What was the setting?
[Jacob; God appeared to him in a dream.]
This is the third time God makes a promise to bless all the people of the earth through Abraham’s seed. This time it was reaffirmed to the third in the line of descent-- Jacob. The second time had been to his father Isaac in Genesis 26:4.
How would the Lord fulfill this promise?
[Jesus coming to earth would be a blessing to every person on earth (Galatians 3:7-9; Romans 4:16-25).]
For Further Discussion
God promised Abraham that he would be a blessing to all people on the earth and that he would be the father of many nations (Genesis 17:4-6). In Day 1 of Advent, it was evident that God always meant for Jesus to die not just for the nation of Israel, but for all mankind.
When you close your eyes and dream of what heaven will be like, and all the people you will spend eternity with, what do those people look like?
Close In Prayer
God always keeps His promises. It may take a long time--in human terms--to see its fulfillment, but His timing is best and He is faithful. How has He been faithful to you? Praise Him right now for His faithfulness!
